Mixed media canvas with an easy background technique.

Hello everyone!
 Today I have a new mixed media canvas to share .

I also have a pictorial tutorial for this so sit back and enjoy!

This canvas is all about NATURE

I am always inspired by all the greenery all around me.  Inspiration from nature is one of the most evident part of all my creations. I love to include greens in most of my creations. With this canvas i wanted to use just these two colours- GREEN and BROWN. I love how this came out. Really earthy and beautiful!

PHOTO TUTORIAL 

Step 1-

Adhere some Thickers onto your canvas and then give a generous coat of  Prima White heavy gesso all over it. 

These are self adhesive thickers but I advise you to use the Prima soft gloss gel to adhere them to the canvas at we will be using liquid media.

Step 2-

Spray the Lindys stamp gang Rusty lantern lime starburst spray  and Luscious lime flat fabio  in the desired quantity. I gave it just 2 coats at this stage.

Step 3-

Spray the Lindys stamp gang Cocoa Bean Copper starburst spray only near the Thickers.

 Switch better shades of browns for more depth.

After this dry the canvas perfectly. 

Step 4-

Keep on adding the greens. Its even better if you have a few shades of greens . 

You can use the Little Lindys Greens for this. This will add depth to you creation.

Step 5-

Start embellishing. Using papers, flowers, buds and  pollens. 

Adhere the embellishments using the Prima soft gloss gel

Step 6-

Add some more interest to this arrangement with cheese cloth,laces etc to give that rustic nature feel. Do not be very precise and clean in the arrangement as it will take away from the nature kind of look we are aiming. 

Step 7-

Add some Prima art ingredient Mica flakes- Henna and Diamond dust

Finish off with white gesso and black gesso splatters.

'Reach Out To Your Dreams' - Mixed media canvas with a Video tutorial.

Hello friends!

Today I have a mixed media canvas to share with you all. I also have a video tutorial  for this.

I used one of my most favourite stamps of the Painted flowers from Altenew Stamps. 

Aren't they the most gorgeous? I embossed these with white embossing powder on vellum and painted these with Lindy's sprays.

Easy Mixed media card with tutorial!

I have some easy mixed media cards to share with you all. 

Its pretty easy to execute these and so I thought its worth a share since mixed media can be so overwhelming at times!

Not too much embellishing and really fun to make.

Tutorial

Step 1-

Take the desired stencil and spray through it on your cardstock in any two colours. Gently lift the stencil

Step 2-

 Now reverse the stencil and press on another cardstock for the negative impression of the stencil

Step 3-

You will end up with two patterns like so. 

Add the contrasting layer to the back of these cardstocks.

Step 4-

 On any one of the prepared background spray gently in the centre and spread the mist.

Step 5- 

Heat dry both cardstocks. Take the second stencil you want to use and apply modelling paste or Prima heavy white gesso through it. Prima gesso has heavy consistency and you may use it if careful enough.

Step 6-

 Heat dry again using the rangers heat it tool. Now use double sided  foam tape on the back side and adhere these to your card blanks,

Step 7-

 Embellish these cards as you desire . Also add the sentiment to it.

Step 8- 

Splatter with gesso and mist. 

You are done!

Easy techniques for cards and canvas with Ken Oliver Crafts Color Bursts!

Hello All!

Today I will be sharing some easy to follow techniques with Ken Oliver crafts color busrts.

These are some great products especially for all the mixed media artists- beginners and professionals... and all those people who love to try out watercoloring.

What are color bursts?

Color Burst is an amazing concentrated microfine watercolor powder that lets you create beautiful watercolor techniques like never before! This versatile powder can be used with so many fun techniques! 
Spritz your project with water and sprinkle on Color Burst and  you can create amazing designs. 
Sprinkle Color Burst on dry paper and then spritz with water for a completely different look. Dissolve in water and spray from a mister bottle to create your own custom mists.
 The possibilities are endless! 

The best part-

1.Very economical. Each bottle contains around 8 grams  of concentrated pigment powder that is enough to last you for a long time! 

2.A single bottle of pigment powder can give varied results of mist color from lightest to darkest depending on the amount of dilution.

3. As there are 6 colors- 3 primary and 3 secondary, there is an endless possibility of mixing and making your custom made mists in the color you want.

4. Mix a little amount with water in a mister and add some perfect pearls to it to create your own customised glimmer mist.

Here is a projects I did using the 
Ken Oliver Crafts color bursts and Altanew Stamp- Painted Poppy

The background demonstrates the effect of color bursts when used as pigment powder and the stamped images show how you can achieve beautiful water coloured effect with these pigment powders.

HOW?

This is actually a 5 minute card.

1. For this card the background was done using the Color bursts. Simply sprinkle some Orange Color burst on the Brustro watercolor paper and spray some water using the Rangers mister bottle

2. After the background was dry, I stamped the rose image using Versamark black Onyx and my new stamp set from  Altanew Stamp- Painted flowers.

3. I heat dried the stamped image and then simply went inside the flower image with Ken Oliver crafts Crimson color  diluted with a little water and leaves with diluted Pthalo Green Color bursts. 

I painted the flowers and leaf images rather randomly without worrying about the details.

5.I adhered this cardstock piece to my base using some double sided foam tape

The second card I tried -

Here is a card I tried and believe me, other than the embossing this is once again a surprisingly quick to make card.

The trick is using Ken Oliver crafts color bursts to watercolor embossed images.

 You really don't have to worry about the water coloring to be accurate.

The embossing resists these inks and you automatically end up with these gorgeously painted images!
I used the Altanew stamp- Painted Poppy

HOW?

1. I stamped the image on Brustro watercolor paper using Versamark watermark ink and sprinkled the rangers white embossing powder. I heat embossed this using the Rangers Heat it tool.

2.  I taped the watercolor paper to my Inkssentials craft mat along all the four edges 

. 

3. Next I dabbed the flower image with lots of water containing myself only inside the embossed flower image.

4. I diluted a very small amount of the Alizarin crimson color burst with water directly on my Inkssentials craft mat ( very easy to lift color from my Inkessentails craft mat and even easier to clean!)

5. I dabbed the centre of the poppy flower with the Alizarin crimson color and without picking up any more color I continued to blend it towards the edge of the petal using ore and more water. The colors blend beautifully into the watercolour paper and there isn't much you need to do from your side ;)

6. I used diluted Pthalo Green color to color the leaf and stem of the image.

7. For the sky background, I soaked the paper with lots of water and the simply dabbed the diluted Ultramarine blue color burst on the edges of the cardstock and blending with more and more water( without picking up any more color)  as I went inwards.

8. Heat dry and mount this on the card base using foam tape. Finish off with a sentiment and some Wink of Stella- Clear on the petals.

For the sentiment, I used a Altanew clear stamp- Painted Poppy sentiment and embossed it on vellum using the Rangers gold heat embossing powderand  Rangers heat it tool.

And the third project-

Finally... I have this galaxy canvas I made using the Ken Oliver Crafts color bursts,  Prima heavy black gesso, Prima heavy white gesso and white pen

HOW?

1. This canvas was done in at different time intervals to achieve this look. The blue you see here is the Ultramarine blue mixed with some white ink, the burgundy color that you see is the  Alizarin Crimson color mixed with the blue . There is also a hint of yellow in there which is basically the Orange Color Burst diluted to an extent.

 2. I went over and over the background around 4 times to get this look.

3. I gave a random coat of Prima heavy white gesso to some areas ( see the top right corner) that I painted with Color bursts to give the appearance of  clouds.Since the color bursts are meant for porous surfaces, they cloud not coat the area properly thereby giving a cloud- like finish.

4. Once satisfied with the galaxy background, I splattered it with Prima heavy white gesso ,  I also tried embossing some spots with Rangers White embossing powder. Once all this was dry I went over some white stars with white pen to create sparkle like effect.

5. Finally I embossed my sentiment in Rangers White embossing powder.

LIVE LAUGH LOVE- Scrapbook layout with a tutorial

 Hello friends!

 Today I have a really fun scrapbook page to share .

 It was real fun to do a page like this..full of colour and life!

So here it is-

PHOTO TUTORIAL

Now let me tell you how I created this.

Step 1-

I used a Darice Core'dinations Kraft cardstock and gave some textures using Prima White crackle paste and Memory Box stencil- Aplha Crumbled. I also outlined the stencil design using a Faber Castell black CD marker and used some alpha rub ons as well

Step 2- 

Now was the time to create some paint drips and splatters. I used some acrylic pant to do this step as the kraft colour is a tricky one and colours don't really show up well on this background.

Step 3- 

Next I used some Enamel dots and stuck them here and there,

Step 4-

I assembled my scrap papers and used these as my layers. These are very random .Just some bits and pieces and leftover from other projects.

Step 5-

I used some flower cut outs from my stash and fussy cut a butterfly from the Kaisercraft expressions paper pack. This is a really gorgeous paper pack and a must buy. Trust me :) I also used a button with a twine and a golf leaf from stash.

Step 6-

 I applied theVersamark watermark ink pad to my '"Live love laugh "title chipboard and then sprinkled the Rangers white embossing powder  and embossed with Rangers Heat it heating tool.

Step 7-

I assembled all my embellishments on the page.

Step 8-

I also did some stamping on the background using  Black archival ink and Kaisercraft Dictionary meanings stamp

DREAM - a mixed media layout in Black and Gold with a tutorial

Hello Friends!

Today I have a mixed media layout in black and gold to share with you all.

I just love the colour combination. I just wonder why I haven't used it often. 

It's the second time I am using this beautiful combo.

PHOTO TUTORIAL

Step 1- 

Cover a Resin frame with black gesso. 

Step 2- 

Apply some Twinkling H20s or Viva decor inka gold -Gold paint to this gesso covered frame and let it dry.

Step 3-  

Place the Rangers Bricked stencil on a black card stock 12x12 inch and spray Lindys Stamp Gang Starburst spray - Glory of seas Gold . 

Step 4-

Take the Wycinanka - Chipboard Cut outs. I used the Flower chipboard and coat it with Twinkling H20 -Gold. You amy also use the Viva decor Inka Gold- Gold

Step- 5-

 Adhere the frame to the page and fill the empty space with Prima Gold leaf mica flakes.

Apply white glue and sprinkle some Diamond dust to the sides of the frames.

Step 6-

Apply some more of the Lindys spray- Glory of the seas gold through the brick stencil on your design.

Step 7-

Use some rhinestones around the frame and embellish with some mulberry flowers micro roses and twisted bud . You may colour these flowers in gold and black or leave them as such. I decided to colour my twisted buds here. 

Step 8-

Now adhere your title using 3D  foam tape.

Step 9-

Spray gold spray around your frame and dry with Rangers heat it tool.Splatter some LSG Glory Of the seas Gold or Heidi swapp gold mist here and there.

 Once dry ,use any different colour of spray you like to brighten up and lift your layout.

I used some purplish/reddish tones around my frame .

Step 10- 

I used some wire thread along the page to give the frame a hanging look.

 And we are done!
